My name is Narissa Leung and I am a former primary school principal, leading teacher, technology coach and Principal Network Chair in Victorian schools. I am passionate about building the capacity of every educator in our system to enable every student (regardless of postcode) to have access to high quality teaching and learning (particularly in Literacy).
I am currently facilitating several intakes of the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership’s Leading Literacy course as well at the Literacy Data and Assessment Practice (LDAP) online course. I also engage in course design for Bastow and their partners as well as consulting in schools on all things literacy, leadership and effective teaching and learning.
I completed my Masters in Education in 2014, and in 2016 led my school to becoming a finalist in the Outstanding School Advancement category of the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.
In 2012 I was fortunate enough to receive the Victorian Department of Education’s prestigious Lindsay Thompson Fellowship, allowing me to travel to other countries to learn from their education systems. I have visited schools in China, USA, India, Singapore and Canada and, as a result, have a strong ‘system view’ of education.
I love seeking out the latest research and best practices in education and sharing my learning with other educators and I’ve presented on the topics of technology, literacy, inclusion, curriculum and leadership across Australia and in the USA.
As a principal I was passionate about empowering students to “be curious, be brilliant and be the change.” Now, as an education consultant who works mainly with teachers and leadership teams, I’m passionate about engaging, inspiring and empowering educators to enable this student focused motto to be carried out in all schools.
In terms of consulting, I regularly work with schools on building teacher knowledge and capacity around teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening. This often includes classroom observations, provision of feedback to teachers and leadership teams, assistance with strategic planning for leading literacy change in the school and running PL for staff.
