This online course is for you if:

  • Your students need to understand the difference between spoken and written language.
  • Your students need opportunities to develop their language to express themselves.
  • You are looking for ways to model the connection between speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • Your students would benefit from seeing their spoken word represented in a written form and then used as a source for reading.

The course:

In this self-paced online mini-course, Mardi Gorman and I: 

  • Look at why language experience (reading) is an effective instructional practice to support beginning readers.
  • Discuss the purpose of language experience and how it can be used as a small group practice.
  • Work through the structure of a language experience lesson.
  • Watch a language experience lesson in action.
  • Share some sample language experience texts that were produced with students.

This 1.5 hour online course starts as soon as you sign up and is divided into the following lessons:

  • Lesson 3: Why L.E.A? 
  • Lesson 4: Structure of the Lesson (Part 1)
