Why This Course?

This online course is for you if:

  • your students need opportunities to develop their oral language in order to improve their written language.
  • you are looking for ways to model the connection between speaking, listening, writing and reading to your students.
  • your students would benefit from seeing their spoken words translated into writing that they can then learn to read back.

In this self-paced mini course, I team up with fellow literacy consultant Mardi Gorman to talk full-strength Language Experience Approach (reading).

We look at why this approach is an effective instructional practice to support new EAL students as well as beginning readers. We also look at the history of the approach and step you through the structure of a lesson. We finish off by watching an example of this approach in an Australian classroom.
